Have You Ever Heard A Butterfly Sing?
Well, have you ever heard a butterfly sing? Actually, neither have I. Yet, in my imagination (In my mind, a God-given ability to picture possibilities that take us beyond what we can presently see and hear and touch . . .) I can play with the story of a lovely butterfly who appears to a people who have never seen flowers nor butterflies and mesmerizes them as she sings and dances and brings them flowers–all for the glory of God and for knowing and experiencing His gift of joy. Those who know me realize that every butterfly I see delights me and speaks to me of God’s pleasure as He transforms me from an earth-bound caterpillar into a butterfly. I owe this longtime inspiration to the beautiful book by Trina Paulus, Hope for the Flowers. I owe my sense of joy in this process to Scripture, 2 Corinthians 5:17, in particular. “Because, by the grace of God, in Christ, I am becoming a new creature.” That is wonderful.
Have You Ever Heard A Butterfly Sing?
Imagine!
She was the first
Butterfly
Anyone
Had ever seen
In that isolated,
Tiny kingdom.Wow!
Her beautiful,
Velvety
Black wings
Illuminated
By golden
Stars sparklingLike glory
In the night-time
Sky, amazed
The people
Who saw her
Dancing
Among them.They gave her
A name,
Mirabel,
Which to them
Meant wonderful,
For her beauty
Sang to themDeep in their
Hearts that had
Never heard
A song before,
And her song
Gave them joy
And laughter.Yes, laughter!
Then singing
That praised
The maker
Of Mirabel
And all
Her beauty.The people
Sang while
Mirabel danced
Across the field
That had never
Grown a single
Flower.Too soon
It seemed
To the people
Mirabel
Finished her
Dance from
Tree to tree.She danced above
The peoples’ heads
And then flew
Away
To catch
The setting
Sun.The people
Remembered
Her deligjtful
Song of beauty
And often sang
It and danced
TogetherUntil a few
Months later
Many
Mirabels
Appeared
Dancing
AcrossTheir fields
Until
Just a little
While longer
Flowers
Bloomed
EverywhereAnd the people
And the
Butterflies
Sang and danced
And praised
Their maker
Together.M.S.
