Laughter and Smiles

Jesus Laughing

Who more so than we, who know the Love of God, the Salvation of Jesus and the Encouragement of the Holy Spirit, to have a glad face? There is nothing so refreshing as a good, wholesome laugh with Christian friends; and especially during the midst of a busy, a heavy day. I thank God for friends who make me laugh–who bring sunshine into the midst of my day. When days are good, laughter is a form of praise arising deep from within our hearts when all is well. When days are bad, laughter is medicine from the Great Physician, Himself, who relieves the pressure of our unanswerable dilemmas. I do praise God for those who have the gift of laughter, who use it as a tool in the hand of Him who would make everyday we live good, even when times are their toughest. I can imagine Jesus reclining around a camp fire with His disciples after a long, wearying day–just listening to the stories and jokes they tell, laughing at the humor that lightens our days. I pray that we will never allow ourselves to forget to  smile and to laugh for the sake of us all and for the glory of God.

Laughter and Smiles

Laughter and smiles
Accompanied our Lord
On long quiet nights
Around burning fires
While Peter and John
And Bartholomew
Told stories and jokes
While he rested his feet—
Their dinner was plain,
Some bread and some fish,
But the company was
Great and life was good.

Wholesome Laughter

Wholesome laughter
Wholly innocent,
Refreshes and
Reinvigorates,
Resurrects
Your weary spirit
Lifting eyes heavenward
And away from dirty feet—
I believe laughter came
An inspiration
When the Holy Spirit
Bespoke one humorous word.

Proverbs 15:13

A glad heart makes a cheerful face,
but by sorrow of heart the spirit is crushed.
